Leuty (Lifeguard) Station, built in 1920, Toronto, Ontario Canada

lyrics

Leuty Station
by Heather Hill and Orville Heyn

Lifeguard chair’s empty in this small bay
Boarded windows, and boats overturned
I stand in your light
Oh watchful tower carry me tonight
No one’s at Leuty Station today

I like it that way, I like it that way
Alone in the rain and the waves
With my thoughts and hopes
On this cloudy day

Evening sky’s a canvas of charcoal grey
Dark clouds rush in,
Scatters the people like blowing sand
Fishy water churning
Waves so high that they’re concerning

No one’s at, no one’s at…Fairweather friends have blown away

I like it that way, I like it that way
Alone in the rain and the waves
With my thoughts and hopes
On this stormy day

There’s a growing feeling I can’t hide
Wind nor rain can break my stride
Inukshuk whispers in my ear
Be strong and never fear

There’s no one at, no one at, no one at…Leuty Station today

I like it that way, I like it that way
Alone in the rain and the waves
With my thoughts and hopes
On this stormy day

The benches are free and left in memory
Of loved ones who sat, and watched their children laugh and play
Of dogs catching sticks
Of families with their picnics
No one’s at Leuty Station today…and I like it that way
